Annual Summary

We had a great SIG session at PAS 2019, which was a combined session with the E-Learning SIG. The structure of the combined SIG this year was very similar to a workshop with presentations on clinical reasoning and then mind mapping with demonstrations and group work. Following this, innovative presentations were held by invited speakers relating to E-learning and medical education. The participants were engaged, and the discussion was great. Presentation and Small Group Work included: Clinical Reasoning Didactic Leader: Robert Riss MD, Children’s Mercy Hospital Mind Mapping Didactic & Demonstration Leader: Pablo A Buitron de la Vega, MD, Boston Medical Center The session wrapped up with abstract presentations and a short business meeting for each SIG. Summary of SIG Meeting: Number of participants at the meeting- Total attendance, including presenters, for the SIG was 25. More accurate calculations from the APA are pending currently. Evaluation of the annual SIG meeting: Our workshop was well received. In each area of the evaluation we were 4.8-4.9 out of 5. Participants enjoyed the mind mapping session and liked the table format we used. They enjoyed the abstract presentation and clinical reasoning lecture and found the overall workshop to be innovative. Other information: SIG LEADERSHIP RECRUITMENT: Jean Petershack is an outgoing co-chair of the SIG. Robert Riss assumed the position of co-chair and Jennifer Benjamin was added as to provide further stability. Maribeth Chitkara continues in her current role. Going forward: Please plan to make better use of the list serve and send out Newsletters to update members and encourage interaction. We plan to create a website in order to better support our membership and strengthen collaboration.
