A discussion between candidates from the Democratic Party.
While tonight’s debate was held at Milwaukee, Wisconsin in Wisconsin this evening, the candidates already consider South Carolina issues. Both Sanders and Clinton opened their speeches by stating that they would be looking at issues that affect African-American voters. Clinton spoke of discrimination against African Americans and Sanders attacked the prison system. Sanders claimed that he doesn’t agree with Clinton’s policies. He also promised that no one will be held responsible for more people being imprisoned than in any other country after his first term. Clinton is more pragmatic and Sanders more idealistic on other issues. Sanders reiterated his plan for single payer healthcare as well as tuition-free public universities and colleges. He plans to fund tuition-free college through Wall Street speculation tax. Clinton however has a college plan that is debt-free. This would ensure that college students are not in debt at the end of their college careers. Clinton was also questioned about Madeleine Albright’s controversial remarks. Clinton stated that she wants men and women to make informed decisions. This means that Clinton wants to reduce gender segregation in politics. Clinton and Sanders also spoke out on issues important for women, including equal pay and paid family leaves. Both candidates seem like good candidates. I don’t know who I’d vote for. While both candidates have a solid ideology, it will not be easy to fight the Republicans. Sanders will have to work harder to pass his policies. But he still has hopes. He can make his policies more reasonable and adjust to the demands of society if it is difficult for him to pass them.
