Gandhi’s Views On Patriotism And One’s Love For Their Country

Gandhi is consistent throughout the piece in establishing and reaffirming core values. In the Preface and Foreward, Gandhi already mentions his ineptitude in translating his writing into English. This speaks to his Hindi/Gujarati core. His reverence for tradition, orthodox principles and societies is also evident in his reference to modern civilisation as “Kingdoms Of Satan” and ancient civilisation as “Kingdoms Of God”.

Gandhi is extremely patriotic. He holds a deep respect for his country. However, he sometimes rejects modern society. On page 25, Gandhi, as you can see, is skeptical about the rise of railroads and doctors to enable a consumption-based society. These are important things, but they don’t fall within Gandhis limits of patience or ancient civilization. While some of his beliefs may not be applicable to today’s society and are untrue, it is admirable that his love of his country and patriotism was so strong. He calls all people in the country “my countrymen”, even though he was referring to people who were violently opposing British Rule rather than Gandhi’s peaceful protests. This is a testament to Gandhi’s love and loyalty for his country and its citizens. He repeatedly stated that Hindus and Mohammedans were one. Indians and all other peoples. Gandhi emphasizes Gokhale’s positive qualities and the benefits they have brought to all Indian society. It’s not about sharing his views. But rather, it is about pure intentions that lead to good lives for his fellow citizens.

He also believes in truth. His sole motive is to serve his country. He stated that he was driven by the “truth” and would not compromise it. Truth is written almost exactly the same way as people refer to God in this sentence. This is a fascinating and insightful approach. It reveals so much about his values. Even when that means admitting to fault, he insists on truth. He says that it is truer to state that India was given to England than to claim that India was lost. He builds trust with his readers by admitting to the country’s mistakes and earns high respect.

In all his writings, Gandhi is consistent in his use of loyalty and patience. This plays a significant role in the story and reveals much about Gandhi. He held steadfast beliefs and was committed to doing the right thing for his country and its citizens.
